Perspective gaining

Whenever I am in need of a bit of perspective, I head over to the coast.

Sometimes, I don’t even realize that it’s perspective I need; I just have the incredibly strong to desire to see the ocean. In person. And up close.

Growing up in the Midwest, I didn’t even have a clue about the transformative power of crashing waves and the infinite blue. That is, until a pivotal moment out in Half Moon Bay in early 90’s. It was just after I had moved to California, and it was a difficult time. It sounds so clichéd, but at that moment, sitting on a craggy west-coast-beach-style rock, I realized the insignificance of my daily troubles and worries.

I always think back to that moment when life circumstances feel overwhelming.

And until last week, I hadn’t had the chance to get back to the beach in quite a while.

Kiddo and I spent a special ‘Samantha & Mommy’ day together and ventured out to the Point Reyes Seashore area. It was a longer drive than I had anticipated–and she got carsick not once, but twice–but it was all worth it.

I love this posting. The ocean has the same effect on me…wish I were there right now!
