So I have been debating with myself all day if I should write on this topic.
I hesitate for the following reasons:
- In the photo below, I am only three or so months post-partum and in all my very overweight glory.
- The featured winery has since closed.
But since this was Samantha’s very first visit to a winery, I just have to do it.
Her earliest winery experience was in March of 2006; she was a wee three months old.
I can’t remember if I had yet returned to work following maternity leave, but I do remember it was one of our First Big Outings (see, we lived way out in the country until she was six months old and it was a even-bigger-than-usual ordeal to go anywhere with her).
The winery we visited was Catacula Lake Winery. It was located out in the Chiles Valley area of the Napa Valley, quite off the beaten path.
Tom was working there as the Tasting Room Manager/Sales Manager at the time.
It was a really neat place with good wine. Alas, the owner passed away about two years ago now and the family decided to cease operations.
And though the official website is no longer around as well, you can read more about the winery here.
The Tasting Room was striking–absolutely huge with wide-open spaces, gorgeous terra cotta tile floors, antique Mexican furniture and walls covered with hand-painted murals depicting the area’s history.
We haven’t been able to find out much of the future plans for the place, except that the land is part of the Napa Land Trust (which is a good thing).
And that land is astoundingly remarkable.
If you happen to hear of any new developments out there, let us know wouldcha?
