Benessere Vineyards, Late November
The big plastic bins you see here are used during harvest; they hold loads of grapes.
I was certain there’s a technical names for these bins–and there probably is–but a quick google search gave me “plastic grape bins”. Hm.
You’ll see these huge bins at pretty much every winery, unless maybe they do custom crush or otherwise make their wine offsite.
When we were at the Harvest Party at Neyers Vineyards yesterday, I was feeling quite artistically-inspired.
Maybe it was the wine in the afternoon, but I really got into a photographic zone.

This is one of my favorite shots from that series. I like it because of the detail and that it displays a completely functional aspect of winemaking. Lots of people–even locals that work in the industry–oftentimes hold this romanticized notion of winemaking.
And while there is this intrinsic mystique to wine (or maybe it’s just really good marketing), it is refreshing to see the practicalities behind the scenes.
It’s my understanding that the shiny metal objects in this photo are hose clamps. As you can see, there are a lot of hoses involved in winemaking.
